Platte County Jury Information

Overview
Jurors are selected at random by State Voter registration and Department of Revenue records. Summons are mailed out approximately three weeks prior to the date jurors are required to report for service.

Jurors typically complete their service in two to three days. Occasionally, some jury trials may last up to two weeks. In order to minimize the amount of time jurors’ lives are disrupted, jurors are instructed to call an automated message line the night before their report date to confirm that there have been no changes in their reporting instructions. Sometimes the Court cancels all or part of the jurors it has summoned and jurors can determine this by following the call-in instructions.

The Summons
You are required to respond to your summons by completing an online questionnaire within 10 days at: www.courts.mo.gov/ejuror/
*If you do not have internet access and are unable to complete the online questionnaire, please contact the jury office at (816) 858-5287

Verifying Report date
Call the automated message line after 5:00 p.m. the evening before you are to report. A recorded message will announce reporting instructions. There are separate phone numbers to call for different reporting times on the same business date.

Message Line: 816-464-8171 (8:30 AM) or 816-464-1013 (9:30 AM)

Reporting for Jury Duty
Report time is 8:30 a.m., unless otherwise instructed. You are to report to the Platte County Courthouse located at 328 Main Street, Platte City, MO 64079 on the first floor. Please allow ample time for parking and security screening.
Security screening is conducted on all persons entering the Courthouse. Cell phones with cameras, laptop computers and other recording devices are NOT allowed inside the building. Be prepared to remove watches, jewelry, belts and/or other items that may trigger screening devices. Individuals carrying prohibited items will be required to dispose of them before entering the building. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
• Any firearm or other weapon
• Any sharp objects such as metal utensils, knitting needles, scissors or knives of any sort
• Flammable chemicals including hair spray, pepper spray or mace
Jury selection usually lasts the entire day. Typically, there is a one hour lunch break around noon and a brief restroom break mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Jurors are allowed to make/receive calls as well as use electronic devices outside of the Courthouse during breaks.
